Insurance marketing: Why do social networking?

Social networking is a permission-based mode of communication. To get anywhere with it in your insurance marketing, you have to gain people’s permission to communicate with them. If you spend some time making yourself a member of a community, really finding ways to fit in and be a genuine member of the group, you will find it a lot easier to get people’s attention.

They might even tell their friends and families about you and the service you offer. In fact, that’s happening right now in other industries. Lots of major brands, including Southwest Airlines, Starbucks, Zappos, Comcast, IBM and Dell, have leveraged Twitter, Facebook and company blogs into highly followed presences that people interact with and trust.

You can, too.

Why do it?

It’s common for people resistant to social networking to come up with lots of objections to getting involved in the practice as part of their insurance marketing. Maybe they think it’s a fact that’s going to go away, or they think they don’t have the time.

Perhaps they think it’s not relevant to their businesses or they’d prefer their staff to spend time on other things. Possibly they’re worried about errors and omissions, as well as lacking return on their investments.

But those are excuses and dodges. Fears of not accepting the new paradigm.

Social media is here to stay as a valued part of insurance marketing. And the benefits outweigh the arguments against investing one’s time.

Social media serves as:

  • A place to build relationships with the customers you’ll be serving
  • A way to contact customers immediately and directly
  • An ever-growing tool for communication that more and more people are using as a primary way to keep in touch.
  • A way to engage customers on a personal level.
  • An organic way to generate leads and referrals.
  • A venue for addressing customer concerns and answering questions quickly.

Social networking is a great option for any business owner but I believe it is very crucial for those in the insurance industry. Not to mention, social media also a great way to find cheap insurance as well.
